This one walked across the road to have a look at us, “why did the Meadowlark cross the road?”

Meadowlark? What the hell’s one of them?

Sounds like some drab brown cross between a meadow pipit and a skylark.

Doesn’t look like one, though. Cracking bird.

an excellent bird, it reminded me of (Common) Quail, and it's bigger than that!
