A day off today and Me and Alan are off for the Whiskered Tern at Saltholme Pools. And again the bird was distant, always on the causeway through the middle of the pools, and when it did fly, only going a short distance and then landing almost out of sight, not what you need when you want to take photos of it.
it is in that shot, trust me
There were some other canny birds here; Black-tailed Godwit, Spotted Redshank, Black-necked Grebe and four Little Egret, none of which were close enough for shots, so none taken, although I did get this with the point and shoot…
Birding Sometimes before he went for breakfast.
We left here and headed to Bishop Middleham in the hope that there might be some late Northern Brown Argus still. There wasn’t. Lots of Wall and Peacock and a few Small Heath and Common Blue and a single Speckled Wood. The lake at the roadside on the way out had four Green Sandpiper and Greenshank and three Ruff.
I was on a short day today, had to be in Newcastle at 13:30 to meet the coach from Leeds, so the next stop was Shibdon Pond, no sign of the Spotted Crake while we were on site, although we did see two Water Rail and a Little Egret here.
