I was off to Leeds early this morning, still with the news that there “was” a Thrush Nightingale on the Farnes fresh on my mind…
It always seems to happen, I arrange to do something and just as I am about to do the thing, news of something major breaks locally, something that I would have gone to see but for the other arrangements. So having collected my nephew we headed back on a scenic tour across the North York moors, up Sutton Bank, then down a bank nearby to have a look at the white horse then back up that same bank to head for Helmsley and then Stokesley, so that we could go past Roseberry Topping and on to Middlesbrough and the Transporter Bridge.
And it just so happens that as you drive away from the said bridge that the road passes RSPB Saltholme Pools and well it would have been rude to drive past without stopping for a look…
Only to be told that there was no sign of it, now if I had been twitching this would have upset me, but as I was only driving past, well it’s not important. As I just happened to have ALL of my birding gear and ALL of my camera gear with me I started a search, and, well, what do you know? I found this Whiskered Tern.
Turns out its been there a while…
